17 November, 2014
This past weekend I spent my 31st birthday with my fans and friends at the NPC East Coast Championships in Wayne, NJ. Not only was it my birthday, but it was my last guest posing for the 2014 season. I chose this show for many reasons. One being to celebrate the success of my good friend Maz Ali, the promoter for throwing a show that at one time was going to be cancelled to now having over 200 competitors pre-registered. As a promoter myself I know the struggles and work it takes to put on show. I wanted to be there to support Maz Ali, owner of Body Worx in Patterson and Powerhouse Gym in Linden, and co-promoter Steve Weinberger who certainly needs no introduction. Another reason was to spend my birthday with my North East family. One large group of people that I don’t get the chance to spend quality time with.
The fans were nothing, but great and to top it all off I had a massive surprise of a cake delivered to me on stage along with “Happy Birthday” being sung to me by everyone in the audience! It was definitely an experience I will never forget.
I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all my amazing fans and friends, who came out to support me all season as well as my last appearance for this year. Reflecting back on 2014, I realized many things. One of which is that I wouldn’t be able to do what I love to do without YOU guys. As generic as this may sound, this is from the heart. I travel all over the world, push myself everyday to be a better Flex Lewis, on and off the stage as I get so much love back. A massive thank you to my TEAM and last but by no means least my girlfriend Ali and family.
I get daily motivation from my fans and every fan I meet has a story, which in many ways motivates me as well. I am very blessed to be doing what I love, surrounded by motivated people. This is the ONLY way to keep growing mentally, physically and spiritually.
To round off my birthday weekend, I came home from NJ to find cards and balloons on my door. I was taken out to dinner by Ali’s family. Just when I was wrapping up my night, my dear friend and massage therapist, Jess, and her husband knocked on my door and surprised me with a cake at 11pm. This was no ordinary cake as it was allergy free! I couldn’t believe it! Not only did she take the time to research my allergies, but Jess spent a whole day making it while she is prepping for the NPC Nationals this weekend. Thank you to everyone for supporting me this past year and for coming out on my birthday. I am ooking forward to a productive off-season and spending time with my family for the holidays.
